Population
is an assemblage of individuals of some species living together in one habitat.
One population may contain individuals of one genetic set up or of different, in
which they can exchange their genetic information. Population shows various
characteristics like density, natality (birth rate), mortality (death rate), age
distribution, biotic potential, dispersion and growth form. It also possesses
genetic characteristics like adaptiveness, reproductive fitness and persistence.
For
the study of population, certain characteristics of individual species is also
necessary. Therefore the parameters like dormancy, viability, seed germination
etc., are studied.
